My favorite thing to do, almost more than actually inventing a new design, is taking a shoddy one and making it glamorous. This dress made my skin crawl. The hackles rose on the back of my neck. My fingers couldn't be kept from picking at the dastardly cheap China stones. Let's not even get started on the lazy fabric fringe... When my client handed it over to me, I kid you not, I cleaned this walking disaster of every stone, sewn on applique and that fabric fringe in an hour; if not under.
My task was to make this dress into something less Pocahontas-got-run-over-by-an-ostrich, more I'm a sexy, stylish Latin dress. This was a case where even my dislike of feathers couldn't deter me from using them in the design. I found some real fringe and used a very asymmetrical hem to cut the dress up into a more interesting manner. Sleeves were added as per request by the client. I localized the feathers and put some quality stones on the dress. Overall, I think this has been my favorite and most satisfying dress remake by far.
The Smooth/Standard dresses slowly are crawling to completion. We have here the lovely Ella and Tropicana for your admiration. A little bit of a floral theme going, Ella has her own handmade appliques.
Last but not least I had a whim for something white with beaded fringe, which is a little bit my obsession right now. The blue-tipped fringe had been eying me for a few years now, but it wasn’t until some late night I randomly got up, sketched and put this together.
