Four years ago I fell in love with this fabric in chiffon. I could not handle it. I can only wonder if that was because of my limited abilities or lack of inspiration. This time around, armed with great inspiration and fine-tuned design capabilities I set out to succeed where I had failed once before. That I did indeed. Even though it was a good 26 hour project, it was like the dress assembled itself while I wasn't even looking.
The earrings even appeared effortlessly when some stones fell together by accident, but made the perfect shape and colour combo.
Pulling colours from the skirt into the body was my challenge the first time around. I tried to do it with a haphazard smattering of stones, which was a very poor decision. This time I put together a basic pattern for the stoning and picked two colours of the skirt; fuchsia and white. With a precise stoning pattern, I was more able to give the dress an overall feeling of unity.
So, despite our dramatic 4 year on-and-off relationship, "Precious" (as the dress has been dubbed by one of my students) and I have finally reconciled. So ends the tale of a designer and a fabric that were meant to be...
