Making dresses is something that I am not really in control of. When a gorgeous fabric catches your eye you have to buy it; even if you have no idea what you want to do with it. In time something magical becomes of it. Usually quite unexpectedly and suddenly at 2am, when everything comes together perfectly and you create something you never could even have imagined.
Though sometimes, that never happens. You spend your time looking at what you thought was gorgeous fabric that you imagined would somehow definitely find a practical use. Three years pass and you never do. At that point you either give it away or, worse. throw it away.
This was the case with a lovely patterned chiffon I'd discovered at the very beginning of my dressmaking adventures. I made and remade things out of it, but never could quite get IT; whatever that was. Finally, some three years later, I tossed it all in the bin ready to never see it again. Laying in bed that very night I thought, "You know, if I could just find that fabric again, in a lovely charmeuse ..."
Monday I had a yen to go downtown and roam around the fabric stores. I didn't really need anything, save some outdoors fabric for an impromptu bag I wanted to design. I wandered into a store. Lo and behold - there it was - that exact same print in a lovely charmeuse. Needless to say, I bought as much as I could rightfully store. There was just something too fated about that encounter.
So now I find myself back in the same boat, but luckily with more experience this time and a planned design. Apparently it was not time to give up yet...
Stay tuned for what becomes of this trouble-maker.
